Can You Have Money and Happiness

can money buy happiness
Contrary to popular belief, money and happiness don't necessarily go hand in hand. While many people believe that money buys happiness, they are woefully wrong, happiness can be had for free.
Studies have shown that although money can ease a stressful situation, it cannot in actuality create happiness. Many people mistakenly think that if they have money, they will be instantly happy. Unfortunately, it doesn't work this way, having money also requires some extra responsibility.
With this extra responsibility, one must be able to manage said the money and one will wish to invest more and that in itself can often be stressful. While paying off debt makes one feel good, having extra money can be confounding and cause undo stress to many individuals.
Happiness by contrast can be had for free. Spending time with ones family or friends can be done for free. A walk on the beach, a day in the park, a picnic, all of these are ways to enjoy time together and be happy.
Happiness can provide a deeper satisfying feeling than money. Although debt can cause stress, it can't take away happiness. If you have money, you will of course be out of debt, but you will often owe more in the long run as you'll be more tempted to buy more toys.
Learning to be happy in one's lot in life can go far in helping people to see that money and happiness don't have to go hand in hand. Happiness is a state of mind and anyone can achieve it from the poorest of the poor to the wealthiest of the wealthy. But, it's not bought with money.
Many have found that living a simplistic life provides them with more happiness than all of the money in the world. Often the happiest of people are the ones that are living in abject poverty. Many of them find ways to volunteer their time in special community projects.
They may not have money, but they thrive on giving to others who are worse off than they are and donating their time and efforts to better the world. They don't expect anything out of their help, they simply want to help.
Learning to give and not expect anything to go far in helping people to be happy. Seeing the joy on other people's faces and helping to give that joy is one of the greatest gifts a person can give.
Living within your means, not expecting your money to provide happiness and enjoying something special in each and every day is far more rewarding than earning a six figure income.
Money may buy a lot of toys, but it can also create a lot of unneeded stress that can pull one down. So go ahead and enjoy your life and quit worrying about how much money you make, you don't need money and happiness to go hand in hand, you can have one without the other. Which one will you choose to embrace?
